Numerous studies have been done overseas that link pesticides to Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease refers to the death of brain cells responsible for producing dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that controls movement. It can cause paralysis. A Reuters article based on information published by Dr William Langston (founder of the Parkinson Institute) and his team showed that pesticides can cause Parkinson’s disease as far back as 2008. This information is based on research that was presented at the Parkinson's Disease Environmental Research meeting in California. It was the result an expert study of how pesticides affect animals. Paraquat was found to have a two- to three-fold increase in Parkinson's risk for farm workers.
